Common questions

How do I back up my memories?

Golden Thread stores your archive on your device. With Plus, you can turn on iCloud sync in Settings to keep memories on every Apple device you use. Either way, you can export your archive as a .gtarchive file at any time and save it wherever you like.

How do I hide private memories?

When adding or editing a memory, mark it private. Private memories only appear after you unlock them with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode. They lock again when the app goes to the background.

Will iCloud sync share my memories with anyone?

No. iCloud sync uses your private iCloud database. It is for syncing between your own devices. We do not see your archive, and it is not shared with other users.

I lost my device. Can you recover my data?

We do not keep copies of your archive on our servers. If iCloud sync was on, sign into the same Apple ID on a new device. Otherwise, restore from an iOS backup or import a saved .gtarchive file.

Why don’t I see anniversary reminders?

Reminders need notification permission. Open iOS Settings → Notifications → Golden Thread and make sure notifications are allowed.

What’s included with Plus?

Plus unlocks Memory Map (browse pinned memories on a map), unlimited photos per memory, iCloud sync across your Apple devices, and Year in Review PDFs. Free users get the full timeline, search, private memories, anniversaries, export, and one photo per memory.

How are purchases managed?

Golden Thread uses Apple’s App Store purchase system and secure third-party services for purchase status and feature access. If a purchase is missing, make sure you are signed into the Apple ID that made the purchase, then try restoring purchases in the app.

How do I cancel or get a refund?

Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Manage purchases in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do I delete all my data?

Delete the app from your device to remove the local archive. If you had iCloud sync enabled, you can also remove Golden Thread data from iCloud in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
